Chishaku-in is the head temple of the Chizan school of Shingon Buddhism, located in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City.
During the Muromachi period, the temple expanded under the patronage of Takauji Ashikaga and Yoshimitsu Ashikaga. Around this time, cultural activities such as Buddhist sculpture and calligraphy became popular.

In the Edo period, it received the patronage of the Tokugawa shogunate and further expanded the number of temples. Around this time, performing arts activities such as the tea ceremony and Noh theater became popular.

The garden and the National Treasure "Oshoin Wall Paintings" are famous.
