It is a townscape where the white walls of merchant houses from the Edo period remain in Sakurai City.
In the Edo period, Yanai prospered as a port town in Suo Province, and many merchant houses stood side by side. At that time, merchant houses were painted with white plaster as a fire prevention measure, and the eaves were protruded deeply to improve ventilation.

Black wooden doors and lattice doors stand out against the white plaster walls, creating a nostalgic atmosphere.

Even now, the white-walled townscape that retains the atmosphere of that time remains for about 200 meters, and has been selected as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings by the national government.

Goldfish lanterns at summer festivals are famous.
