Aoshima in Miyazaki Prefecture is a small land-connected island with a circumference of 860m, surrounded by an unusual topography called Oni no Washita.

The characteristic of Oni's washboard is its jagged shape. This is because when the waves eroded the rock, only the hard sandstone was left behind. Therefore, the demon's washboard has a jagged shape, just like a washboard.

Aoshima Shrine on the island is a popular power spot.
