Takeisao Shrine was built in 1869 by order of Emperor Meiji, and enshrines Oda Nobunaga as the main deity.
At that time, Nobunaga was worshiped as a ``great hero who unified the country'' and a god of national security and relief for all people.

Mt. Funaoka is a small hill that is said to have served as the northern starting point during the construction of Heiankyo as a small mountain of Genbu, and from the shrine grounds, you can overlook Kyoto city, Mt. Hiei, Mt. Daimonji, etc.
